Specific Sound Specifies Reliability

As every audio expert knows, studio gear needs not only to have great sonic quality but also be reliable, so that they can get on with the creative job in hand. Manager of Specific Sound studios, Toby Taylor is no different, which is one of the primary reasons why he chose Audient.

“Audient gear is always well made and reliable. Since the day we got one strip of Audient mic preamps, they have never let us down,” says Taylor, describing the initial ASP008 purchase that started his relationship with the Audient brand. “Whenever we consider buying new hardware, we always look back at what has worked well for us and explore from there.”

Recently having upgraded the studio from D8B to a DAW/Mic amp/controller arrangement, Specific Sound studio is part of a new generation of studios that have abandoned the constraints of a huge analogue desk and proprietary recording system, and moved onto a more simplistic but audibly sound way of recording and production.

Taylor explains the reasoning behind the latest Audient purchase: “We needed a way to attenuate our headphone mixes in the studio as well as our monitors, and listen to multiple sources from DATs, CDs, tapes, minidiscs and vinyl as well as other digital sources. The Centro filled the role perfectly, and also provided us with a fantastic control surface that we were able to integrate seamlessly with our console.”

When asked whether his Audient products have met his requirements, Taylor doesn't hesitate in responding. “To be blunt, totally. We spent a lot of time weighing up the different options that we had, but it was very clear from early on that Audient products not only did what we want, but they did it better than we expected.”
