Audient settles into New York Penthouse

Leon Dorsey ASP8024With panoramic views overlooking Manhattan’s Central Park, jazz bassist Leon Lee Dorsey has just perfected his penthouse studio set up with the purchase of an Audient ASP8024 mixing console.

Leon Lee Dorsey took delivery of the first Audient desk in New York in his namesake studio at the beginning of this year. 'I can’t begin to tell you how thrilled I am to use this console,' he enthuses. 'Not only is it aesthetically beautiful, it sounds utterly amazing.'

The studio has a main live room over 1600 square feet with 14 foot ceiling, natural reverb chamber, a Yamaha C-7 Grand Piano, and a spectacular view of midtown Manhattan skyline. It is conveniently located in the arts hub of New York, directly overlooking Lincoln Center. The comfortable ambiance creates the ideal environment for productive recording sessions.

'Sonics are very critical to us here, because we record so much acoustic music here. The Audient 8024 is tailor-made for today’s work environment. The IZ Radar 24 is the cornerstone of our studio alone side a slew of high end outboard gear and vintage mic collection such as Neumann, Telefunken, Manley, Crane Song, Tube-Tech, Focusrite and Universal Audio. This is complimented by a full Pro Tools HD3 rig and G5 Macintosh.' Dorsey continues, 'The first time I played a track through it, I was spellbound. The sound was just fantastic! The Audient compliments my current equipment perfectly.'

Though only a few years old Leon Lee Dorsey studio is responsible for mixing and producing over 25 CDs for numerous labels worldwide. The clientele list reads like a who’s who of the jazz world. Artists include George Coleman, Monty Alexander, Dave Valentine, Houston Pearson, Grady Tate, Hilton Ruiz, Frank Wess, Billy Hart, Gary Bartz, Robin Eubanks, and Rodney Jones. Recently Leon Lee Dorsey Studios had the honour of hosting TV legend Bill Cosby producing a project in conjunction with pianist Hilton Ruiz.

As a bassist Dorsey has performed with jazz luminaries such as Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey and the Messengers, Gloria Lynn, Cassandra Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, George Benson and Frank Sinatra. His current CD 'Song of Songs' showcases Dorsey as he is joined by vibraphonist Bryan Carrott, pianist Carlton Holmes and drummer Vincent Ector and is on general release.
