Audient Goes Fourth At The Soundhouse
The Soundhouse has installed a 12 channel ACS-8024 desk in its most recently upgraded studio, bringing the number of Audient desks at the London based facility to four. Over the 21 years of its operation, The Soundhouse has periodically expanded and upgraded to accommodate its changing business, which today is largely made up of radio drama, voiceovers, TV dubbing, ADR and audio book recording.
With prominent clients including the BBC, Channel 4 and Playhouse Disney, and notable, yet diverse actors such as Timothy Spall, Jonny Vegas and Ewan McGregor passing through its six studios, The Soundhouse has to ensure they offer the highest sound quality. “The sonic clarity and very low noise levels of the Audient ASP8024 desks immediately impressed,” co-owner and director Phil Horne enthuses, describing the choice for the initial two desks.
“The mic pre’s are really quiet and have a greater presence and clarity than we were used to with our previous consoles. The EQ is just great too - you can really hear the EQ if you know what I mean!” Horne continues.
“When we expanded the business and built Studio 6, the natural thing to do was fit an ACS8024,” he explains. Audient’s ACS8024 expands on the sonic clarity and full-featured control of the ASP8024 console, integrating the work station control into one of console bays. “The ACS also is just as well laid out, also with a solid, professional appearance. The 12 channel ACS in our smaller Studio 2 completes the set.”
The Soundhouse studios bought all four Audient desks from UK console dealer, Stirling Trading UK – now trading as SCV London.
And it’s not just Horne that noted the difference. “When we installed our first Audient, one of our regular Radio Drama producers commented during his first session with the desk: ‘Have you got a new mic or something, ‘cos it sounds great in here!’ ” he laughs.
