Julian Ronnie Composed with Audient Zen

"It's so easy to use"

West London, June 2010 - Film and television music composer Julian Ronnie has installed an Audient Zen in his private west London studio. Coupling the Zen with his ProTools system, Ronnie composes music for numerous stage, film and television productions, and most recently recorded and mixed the Famous Grouse advert with his new Zen.

“What I like about the desk is its ease of use,” says Ronnie. “I'm a musician who manages to fake his way on the engineering side of things rather than a ‘proper engineer’, but once I got the hang of the fact that there were basically three ways into the Zen (line, mic and DAW) it was all nice and straightforward.”

Despite his modesty, Ronnie used his Zen to work on all the pre-show production for his new musical ‘Peter Pan’ which opened at the Curve Theatre in Leicester recently, and describes how he looks forward to being able to put the console through its paces more thoroughly soon.

“The automation is a great feature, I’ve only just started experimenting but it will be great to have hands-on control of a mix rather than always being tied to a mouse.” He continues, “I like the transport function. I really didn’t think I was going to use that, but I use it all the time.”

“It is rather like I’ve bought a Ferrari but I haven’t got it out of first gear yet,” laughs Ronnie and concludes, “I think the price is very good for what it offers.”

Ronnie’s television credits include BAFTA award winning series Skins, Vice, Peak Practice, Everyman, House Doctor, Celebrities Under Pressure, Inside Sport, Cavegirl and the new Channel 5 News theme, alongside literally hundreds of commercials. He also wrote the score for the film Morris – A Life With Bells On which is now on general release; music & lyrics for many musicals amongst which are the critically acclaimed productions of Tom Sawyer and Ay Carmela (Contact Theatre Manchester), Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Broken Angel (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and The Bomb (Dukes Theatre Lancaster) which won a TMA award.
