New Jersey, USA, October 2005 – Marmora based Sound Strike Studio chose Audient’s ACS8024 mixing console when upgrading the facility this autumn. As one of the few remaining state-of-the-art commercial facilities in southern New Jersey, the studio takes bookings from independent engineers and producers as well as handling local bands and solo artists.
Owner and engineer Thomas Smead has only praise for his new Audient. 'The flexibility of the console is amazing. Each session I learn some new way that I can patch things around. Having the DAW built into the board makes it way more user-friendly.'
The ACS8024 combines the sound quality and feature mix of the ASP8024 with an additional Control Section bay with Command 8 fitted for ProTools control, bringing the control of ProTools right to the traditional listening position: the centre of the console.
Smead really appreciates the desk’s features. 'I actually have a dozen out-board pre-amps in my racks including Neves, APIs and Millenniums, but I usually end up using the 8024’s pre-amps because they sound great. The EQs are set up perfectly for audio; and who can complain about 14 aux sends?!
'All in all, having the Audient has increased my productivity and made sessions 100% easier. I couldn’t be happier with it,' he enthuses.
Thomas Smead is a strong believer in helping out the younger generation with rap making up about 50% of his work at Sound Strike Studios. He also focuses on alternative, heavy metal and solo artists as well as a lot of commercial work.
